Woken by violent coughing around 0400...took ages to get back to sleep. It was so violent it seems to have bruised my sternum! Eventually got back to sleep about an hour later. By the time I awoke, Aki was heading for Rowing Club...nice day for it. Porridged. The metal gate manufacturer came by to take a look at the situation...the problem lies in the gate posts being too close together, and, certainly in one case, too low. He recommended removing the brick pier to widen the entrance, and he has a point. Not sure how to progress things from here. Popped over to Jane and Carlos at No.36 to practice "Yesterday"...after a few hiccups, it seemed to flow reasonably well, though Carlos is no great shakes on the sax...beginner level stuff. That didn't stop him wanting to do a couple more Beatles numbers, namely "Hey Jude" and "Michelle"...said I'd transpose them, and give them a go, but we have little or no rehearsal time to plot in. Came home and made myself a sardine salad lunch...Aki had returned, but had eaten at the cafe next to the Rowing Club. I popped out to Waitrose...took the car, as it had started raining. Bought some odds and ends to make tonight's dinner. Bought an exterior use padlock at Franchi's, for the garden gate. Came home and prepared an aubergine parmigiana lasagne for dinner, which we ate with kale doused i a walnut and parmesan sauce, inspired by our dinner on Monday night. Watched episode 1 of "The Last of Us", a dystopian post apocalypse drama that has received rave reviews. Aki hated it, but I thought it was very well done...the sets and set dressing were very convincing. Padlocked the gate before bed...
