At Takaoka we changed for another to Amaharashi, where we disembarked to view Yoshimoto’s Rock, silhouetted against the snowy Tateyama Mountains where they meet Toyama Bay. We watched a buzzard fly over. The village itself seemed shut, so we decided to head back to Toyama for lunch. Ate in a takoyaki joint, then jumped on a pink tram, getting off outside the Glass Museum, a modern Kengo Kuma designed edifice (he designed Dundee’s V&A).
We enjoyed the idiosyncratic in-house display, and the stunning Chihuly creations in the Glass Garden on the top floor. Walked back to the hotel via the castle.
Flaked out in our rooms for an hour so before venturing out for dinner at a little sushi restaurant beneath the station.
Kath not too adventurous on the raw fish, but there was tempura on the menu, and a crab mayo roll, which she washed down with half a litre of lager. I enjoyed the seared tuna. Walked back to the hotel and penned a postcard to mum and dad, which I posted in the post box opposite…hope it gets to its’ destination.
