Woke around 0230 needing the loo…unable to get back to sleep. Eventually dozed off but felt very unrefreshed when Kath rang our room to see if we were rising for breakfast. Met downstairs in the ‘Irish’ pub for a strange mix of foodstuffs…really rather tasty, though! Headed into town, stopping for coffee at a local Starbucks. Ventured onto the Metro system, getting out at Shibuya to show Kath the famous pedestrian crossings. Ventured to Ebisu to shop in Uniqlo, then lunched on rice burgers at Mos Burger. Kath and Aki had their eyes tested at Jins and ordered new glasses.
Took a JR line train to Ebisu and walked up to Izumi’s hairdressing salon to say hello…left Aki to have her hair done. I walked Kath up the road for a coffee at a large modern bookshop Aki and I had visited 6 years ago…it started to rain, and the coffee shop was rammed. Couldn’t get a seat, so wandered the endless floor space browsing various set pieces and exhibits. Got a soaking making our way back to the hair salon.
Picked Aki up, and said farewell to Izumi. Walked down the road for dinner at a little basement fish restaurant. We shared half a spider crab, giant clams in soup, a tasty side salad, and tuna carpaccio and sushi rolls. Had to pop back to Jins on the journey back to the hotel…bought some breads and pastries for breakfast tomorrow morning. Flopped into bed, exhausted…
